Board of Directors
In July of 2000, a new Florida law assigned responsibility for The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art to Florida State University (FSU). It dissolved the existing Ringling Board of Trustees- which had been responsible under prior law for management and operation of the John and Ringling Museum of Art – and created a Direct Support Organization, sometimes called the DSO. FSU elected to have The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Foundation, Inc., the existing fund-raising arm of the former Trustees, as this newly constituted DSO.
The Board of Directors of the Foundation is to consist of no more than 31 members, no less than one-third of them from Sarasota and Manatee counties. Operating under a charter and bylaws approved by the University, its primary responsibilities are to recommend policies to maintain and preserve the collections of the museum, to help raise funds for the museum, to expand access to its resources, and to raise the museum’s national and international reputation. The DSO board is also empowered to nominate candidates for the museum’s director to the FSU president. The director is to serve at the pleasure of the university president and to report to FSU's provost, or his designee.
Upcoming Board Meeting dates are:
- October 4-5, 2012
- January 17-18, 2013
