The Ringling Museum Presents A Conversation With Clyde Butcher

Sarasota, FL – Sept. 10, 2007 – Renowned landscape photographer and environmentalist Clyde Butcher explores his dramatic photography of the remote and mountainous regions of Cuba in A Conversation With Clyde Butcher at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Historic Asolo Theater, 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007.
The United Nations declared the year 2002 as "The Year of the Mountains" and encouraged countries all over the world to have environmental conferences regarding the conservation of mountains. The Conference for the Caribbean and the Americas was held in Cuba, and Clyde Butcher was invited to photograph the dynamic landscape of Cuba for the conference.
Mr. Butcher will reflect on his experience capturing Cuba on film.
"Mr. Butcher will offer a look into the relatively unexplored natural landscape of Cuba,” said Ringling Museum Curator of Theater Programming Dwight Currie. “His behind the scenes accounts of his journey and photographic expression of Cuba’s landscape provides another context in which to understand the country as well as how its natural beauty relates to the culture and heritage.”
A Conversation With Clyde Butcher is part of the Contemporary Cuba series at the Historic Asolo Theater, Oct. 8 – 13, 2007 and an exhibition of Butcher’s photos of Cuba is on display in the Ulla R. and Arthur F. Searing Wing through Jan. 10, 2007.
A book signing of Cuba, the Natural Beauty and reception follows the program.
