Ringling Museum’s An Evening With Series Kicks Off With A CBS Sunday Morning Favorite
SARASOTA, Fla. – Sept. 7, 2006 – CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Eugenia Zukerman inaugurates The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art’s An Evening With series, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 on the Historic Asolo Theater stage.
The An Evening With series is the newest program introduced in the Historic Asolo Theater since its scheduled opening night, Oct. 6, 2006. The series features lectures and conversations with prominent scholars, writers, critics, and journalists for a variety of topics on the arts, culture and history. Champagne receptions and book signings follow.
The next generation of artists will be the focus of Zukerman’s An Evening With discussion.
Zukerman has been a special correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning since December 1981, covering classical music, dance and the arts for the critically acclaimed broadcast. She has interviewed nearly 300 musicians during her Sunday Morning career, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Itzhak Perlman, pianist Van Cliburn and composer/singer Paul McCartney.
She also is a powerful spokesperson for all the arts and an effective champion of young musicians. Zukerman is a published author, a teacher at New York University’s Department of Music and Performing Arts, an artistic director of the Vail Valley Music Festival and a renowned classical flutist. (While Ms. Zukerman will reflect on her musical career, she will not be performing during this program.)
Eugenia Zukerman is a phenomenal artist who is shaping contemporary art,” said Ringling Museum Curator of Theater Programming Dwight Currie. “It is fitting she join us as our first featured guests of the An Evening With series in the restored Historic Asolo Theater seeing as the theater itself did its fair share of shaping the arts in our community.”
An Evening With continues through May with the second installment of the series featuring a musical conversation called “I Could Have Sung All Night” with Marni Nixon and June LeBell, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006.
