Posters
The poster was the chief means of advertising the arrival of a circus months in advance of its arrival. Ranging in size from window to barn sized, these colorful posters were plastered on buildings, walls and fences all across America and broadcasted in no uncertain terms that the circus was coming to town.
At the Circus Museum’s Tibbals Learning Center, there are interactive poster circus displays, a digital exhibition of more than 5,000 circus posters and a changing gallery of original circus posters.

Performing Genius: Center Ring Stars and Circus Celebrities of the Golden Age
In their continuous efforts to offer the American public amazing, never-before-seen acts and attractions, circuses searched for the most talented performers from all corners of the globe. A few of the most skilled and charismatic of these performers became well-recognized names and faces around the country, with their likenesses posted in towns to announce the imminent arrival of a must see show. Performing Genius: Center Ring Stars and Circus Celebrities of the Golden Age showcases posters designed around these talented performers. The exhibition can be seen from June through September 2007 in the Circus Museum’s Tibbals Learning Center.
