Like our own era, the 19th century was a period of great technological change and scientific discovery.  The public was curious about all things exceptional and unknown whether an exotic species of animal or the wonders of hot air balloons. The circus, zoological gardens, and other public venues provided exhibits where visitors could be both entertained and informed about the world in which they lived.  Exercise your curiosity and come along on this exhibition tour that illustrates some of these exceptional and unknown wonders!

Want to know more about works in the museum’s collections and exhibitions? Join museum staff and invited experts for these “bite size” programs that focus on issues and ideas.
