Examine the long and distinguished history of glass and how artists have reframed that largely functional history. While respecting the traditions from which it came, contemporary artists have embraced glass as an intriguing opportunity for exploring challenges in sculpture.
Presenter James Yood teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and contributes to national and international publications such as Artforum and Glass. He has published several books on a range of subjects from food in art to William Morris.
Following James Yood, please join us for a conversation with collectors Nancy and Philip Kotler and Matthew McLendon, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art to celebrate the current exhibition of the Kotler's collection. The Kotlers have assembled an outstanding collection of Studio Glass including works by key artists and generously donated this collection to The Ringling in 2012.
Join us for a reception immediately following this program.
