The lights go down, a hush falls over the audience and the curtain rises on Sarasota's most storied theater. U-shaped, with three tiers of boxes, this architectural gem provides a rare sense of intimacy between audience and performer that adds so much to the theater going experience. Created in Asolo, Italy in 1798, brought to Sarasota in the early 1950s and painstakingly restored in 2006, the Historic Asolo Theater is one of the most beloved objects in The Ringling collection.

This film, The Rising Tide, directed by Robert Adanto, looks at the emerging post-Mao art scene in China through the works of several prominent artists some of whom are featured in the exhibition, Seeing the Unseen. The film will be introduced by the director and then followed by a post-screening discussion.
