Where is the Art Library and when is it open?

The Ringling Art Library is located in The Ringling Education Center on the south side of the estate off Bay Shore Road in Sarasota Florida. To access the Library, sign-in at the Security desk located in the lobby of the Education Center. The Library is open by appointment from 8am-1pm, Monday through Friday. The Library is open to the public from 1-5pm, Monday through Friday. You do not need to be a Member of the Ringling to use the Library.

Does the Art Library authenticate or appraise works of art?

The Library does not authenticate or appraise works of art. 

Does the Library offer any programs or special events?

Yes, we offer a free storytime for children ages 4-7, entitled ROAR! Ringling Order of Art Readers, various dates throughout the year, all at 10:30AM. We offer a free book club program for teens and adults, entitled The Literati, meeting the first Friday of every month, September through May, at 10AM. And we offer a quarterly lecture series on our special collections, entitled Inside the Vault, all at 10AM.  View upcoming programs. 

Does the Library have a Friends group?

Yes, our Friends group provides the Library with funds to conserve rare books, promote and create free programs for the community, and initiate special projects that preserve our unique collection of art history books, spanning the 16th century to the present. To become a Friend, please call our Membership team, at 941-360-7330.

Can I check out materials from the Art Library?

The Library is a non-circulating art research library. The general collection is available for open browsing, and materials are to be enjoyed in the Library's Reading Room.

Can I make photocopies/scans from Art Library materials?

The Library offers a complimentary photocopying and scanning service, up to 25 pages.  For assistance please see a librarian.

Are digital resources available? Is there free Wi-Fi?

The Library has a digital collection freely available at http://ringlinglibrary.contentdm.oclc.org and http://www.flickr.com/photos/ringlinglibrary. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available.

Can I bring my child or infant to the Art Library?

CYes, we do have a childrens area with nearly 1,000 titles. Children and infants are welcome, and must be accompanied at all times.

Can I bring my purse or bag with me when visiting the Art Library?

Purses, totes or book bags that exceed the dimensions of 9” x 12” x 3” must be checked with security personnel. All laptop and camera cases must be checked with security personnel, and all items checked will be placed in our library lockers before entrance is permitted.

Can I have lunch at the Art Library?

All foodstuffs, drinks (excepting bottled water), candy, and gum are not permitted in the Reading Room and other public areas. A drinking fountain is available.

Can I use highlighters, sticky notes, or other office supplies at the Art Library?

No, the use of these items is not permitted in the Library.  We supply pencils and paper.
