Ringling Retro:
Modern & Contemporary Works of Art
from the Permanent Collection

May 10 – October 19, 2008

Ringling Retro looks at some of the most important pieces from the Museum’s collection of modern and contemporary art, focusing on the decades of the 1960s to the 1990s.  Included in this provocative display of paintings and sculptures, are seminal works by Jules Olitski, Frank Stella, Trevor Bell, John Chamberlain, Robert Rauschenberg, Syd Solomon, Louise Nevelson, Jackie Ferrara, David Hockney, Barbara Kruger, Thomas Struth, and many other leading figures of the years spanning the modern and post-modern period.  Ringling Retro looks back at these pivotal decades, but it also looks forward, as we anticipate other stimulating presentations of the “Art of the New” at the Ringling Museum.  The spacious Searing galleries provide an ideal setting for the Museum’s large-scale contemporary works included in this exhibition.
