Great Cinematic Romances Featured at Monday Night Movies at the Ringling
Sarasota, FL – May 20, 2008 – Film-lovers and romantics alike will enjoy this summer’s Monday Night Movies series Both Sides of the Lens: Great Cinematic Romances on The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art’s Historic Asolo Theater screen. Monday Night Movies is presented with the Sarasota Film Festival and begins on Monday, May 26, 2008 at 7 p.m. and continues through June 30, 2008.
The six-film series will explore the work of some of Hollywood’s most famous couples and the ways in which their off-screen chemistry sizzles on the silver screen.
The Big Sleep starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall
Bogart meets Bacall in Raymond Chandler’s classic tale of a bad heiress and the hardboiled private eye who falls for her.
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Staring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor
Mick Nichols directs Burton and Taylor in the Edward Albee’s story of a marriage on the rocks (with a twist.)
Adam’s Rib starring Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn
George Cukor tells the story of two lawyers (Tracy and Hepburn) whose decision to face off in court hilariously impacts their otherwise happy marriage.
McCabe and Mrs. Miller starring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie
The 1970’s “it” couple Warren Beatty and Julie Christie star in Robert Altman’s classic anti-western, the story of two hustlers who find one another in the wild west.
The Thin Man starring William Powell and Myrna Loy
Powell and Loy, Hollywood’s first power couple, star Nick and Nora Charles, the wittiest detectives in the history of movies and attempt to solve a murder.
The Long Hot Summer starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward
Newman and Woodward married after the completion of this adaptation of William Faulkner’s story of a drifter who brings changes to a southern family.
