Join the celebrated senior scholar of the Venetian Renaissance, Peter Humfrey, Professor of Art History, University of Saint Andrews, Scotland, as he considers the reception of Veronese in England, from the early years of the seventeenth century, when his paintings first began to arrive there, until the end of the nineteenth century, when some of the finest examples in British private collections began to be exported to the United States. Reception and book signing to follow lecture.

David Rosand, Meyer Schapiro Professor Emeritus of Art History, Columbia University, reflects on the history and opportunities of Veronese scholarship – past, present, and future.

Papers will offer new perspectives on Veronese and his art; speakers will include Caroline Campbell (National Gallery, London), Stephen Campbell (Johns Hopkins University), Tracy Cooper (Temple University), C. D. Dickerson III (Kimbell Art Museum), Frederick Ilchman (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), John Marciari (San Diego Museum of Art), Helena Szepe (University of South Florida), and Susannah Rutherglen (University of Toronto).
Admission to the programs on March 8–9 is free for academic faculty, museum professionals, scholars, and students with valid ID.

Engage your students with the art and culture of the Venetian Renaissance. Learn how one of its greatest artists, Paolo Veronese, represented the lavish material culture of one of Europe’s wealthiest and most beautiful cities, carefully and clearly expressed complicated sacred and secular narratives and ideas in his paintings, and ran a thriving business, managing a large and busy workshop.
This program is designed for elementary and secondary teachers. Representative objects from the exhibition will prompt discussion and learning. Sunshine State standards in history, language, and the visual arts will be addressed.
