From the Ancient Pyramids to a Voyage through Italy: The Ringling Art Library’s Collection of Rare Travel Books. Presented by Elisa Hansen, Head of Library Services
Beginning with Pauanias’ second-century personal journal of his description of Greece, and continuing today with blogs and guide books, travel literature has been a popular genre through many centuries. The Ringling Art Library’s Special Collection includes a number of seventeenth to nineteenth-century travel books, many of which are extremely rare. This presentation will explore these fascinating journeys and the authors who wrote about them.
Less formal that a lecture presentation, Conversations are designed to be programs where staff and guests can share research projects or topics of special interest. This Conversation will take place in the Chao Lecture Hall - please remember to allow extra time to walk or take a tram to the Center for Asian Art.
