Join in conversation with artist Mohsen Azar as he discusses his As of Now… series included in the exhibition Metadata:Rethinking Photography from the 21st Century. The series explores the lasting impact and life cycle of images of politically-charged trauma. Azar takes these images and uploads and downloads them to Instagram thousands of times, exploiting a compression algorithm that eventually causes these pictures to transform into unrecognizable abstractions. In this gallery talk, Azar will discuss his practice exploring the materiality and metadata of these images.
