Although we encourage creativity in children, as adults we often forget that we, too, can explore and learn through play. In this Museum Intensive course, we’ll bring the fun back into museum galleries for grown-ups! Class participants will experience the collection in new and unexpected ways through a variety of open-ended activities centered on engagement with art objects. If you are open-minded, curious, and enjoy thinking outside the box, this course is for you!

Our focus will be on in-gallery experiential learning. Background information will be provided about each of the art objects featured, but the emphasis will be on facilitating dialogue, creative thinking, and collective meaning-making in unusual ways.

Course Schedule: This course is a series of 4 classes to be held on Thursdays, Aug 4, 12, 19 and 26; 10:00 am-12:30 pm.

Price: $225 / $175 for Members

Instructor: Laura Steefel-Moore first joined The Ringling in 2015 and is currently the Head of Educational Programs. She has a BA in Art History from Washington University in St. Louis and an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from Case Western Reserve University. She is interested in making museums accessible to all, with a focus on inclusive gallery teaching.

Please note:  Course must have a minimum of 8 persons enrolled in order to run. Class size is limited to 15 participants; all classes will begin at the Chao Lecture Hall in the Center for Asian Art and then will proceed to the Ringling Museum of Art galleries. If CDC protocols shift and this class is deemed unsafe, participants will be notified at least two weeks prior to the start of the course and alternative dates will be proposed.
