Join archives staff member Peggy Williams for an inside look at how she pursues a research question using the resources and holdings in the Ringling Archives. Today's topic will be to track down information on the Barnum and Bailey boss canvasman during the 1901 European tour as a case study on circus economics: What was his salary? What currency was he paid with? How many cities did they play in a week?

    Virtual Lectures

    June 1 @ 10:30am | Conserving Emperor Justinian Tickets

The Ringling was awarded a grant by the Getty Foundation’s Conserving Canvas initiative to restore the monumental painting Emperor Justinian by Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant. The painting was prominently displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for many years before being acquired by John Ringling in 1929. After completion of its conservation treatment in January 2020, the painting was installed in a position of honor in one of The Ringling’s largest galleries. Barbara Ramsay, the museum’s Chief Conservator, will provide an overview of the conservation treatment and training project that was generously funded by the Getty Foundation and The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Foundation.
