Schedule of Events

Japanese Tea Demonstration with Dr. Rebecca Corbett
Friday, October 26, 2018

Chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony) is an art of social interaction that has its origins in 16th century Japan. Since then it has been a vehicle for the production, consumption, and appreciation of a range of art forms including ceramics, lacquerware, ironwork, and bamboo ware. Guests will have the chance to experience the central act of chanoyu: drinking a bowl of freshly whisked matcha (powdered green tea) in the intimate space of a 4.5 mat teahouse. Dr Rebecca Corbett will prepare tea in the manner of the Urasenke School of Tea of which she is a student.

Please note: Guests will be asked to remove shoes prior to entry to the Tea House, and will be seated on the floor for this ceremony demonstration.

This program is restricted to Friends of Asian Art. Demonstrations are scheduled at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. Six spaces are available for each session on a first come first serve basis and reservations are required. Invitations will be emailed at a later date and the RSVP will be available at that time.
