Specialty School Tours

The Ringling is pleased to offer the following specialty docent-led tours on a limited basis. To schedule one of these options for your school group, please contact Bonnie Thomas, Scholastic Programs Coordinator, at bonnie.thomas@ringling.org.

Samurai: The Way of the Warrior Tours

Explore the world of the samurai in this special exhibition featuring arms, armor, and decorative objects from the Museo Stibbert. Students will connect these beautifully-crafted objects to samurai history and legend while examining how this fascinating part of Japanese cultures fits into a broader context.

  • Docent-led tours are offered at 10:30 am Tuesday through Friday during the run of the exhibition (January 15 – April 17, 2016).
  • Recommended for students in 3rd-12th grades.
  • Reservations required 6 weeks prior to the date of your visit.
  • Maximum of 60 people per day can participate in this school tour.
  • 2 chaperones required for every 10 students.

 

Please note: School groups who wish to visit the Samurai: The Way of the Warrior exhibition WITHOUT a docent may do so by reserving a self-guided tour on the “School Tour Reservation” page.


Ca’ d’Zan School Tours

Students will see history come alive as they explore the first floor of Ca’ d’Zan, the Ringlings’ winter residence, and find connections between this historic home and Florida life in the Roaring Twenties. These tours provide a unique opportunity to see inside the life of a couple who helped shape state and local history.

  • Docent-led tours are offered at 9:30 am Tuesday through Friday, August through May.
  • Available to students grades 4-8
  • Reservations required 6 weeks prior to the date of your visit.
  • Maximum of 50 people per day can participate in htis school tour.
  • 2 Chaperones are required for every 10 students.

 

Please note: School groups who wish to walk through the first floor of Ca’ d’Zan WITHOUT a docent may do so by reserving a self-guided tour and queuing at the mansion’s entrance at one of the following times: 10:00, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 4:30.


Superhuman in Sarasota Tours

This special tour for Sarasota County 4th graders will introduce students to the legacy of local “super humans,” from daring circus performers to towering mythological figures shown in works of art. Stopping in both the Museum of Art and the Tibbals Learning Center, students will discover how the superhuman elements of circus history and art have helped make Sarasota the place it is today.

  • Tours are offered at 10:30 am Tuesday through Friday, September through April.
  • Reservations required 6 weeks prior to the date of your visit.
  • Maximum of 150 people per day can participate in this school tour.
  • 2 chaperones required for every 10 students.
