Gallery Walk & Talks

 

Join us to explore various aspects of the Museum and its collection. Tickets are free with Museum Admission and are available for pick-up on the day of the program. Tickets are limited. Members may reserve tickets in advance online.


February 6 | 10:30 AM & 6:00 PM | The Color Blue (and why it's the best)

It's a color showdown as Assistant Director of Academic Affairs David Berry will attempt to persuade us that blue is best. Come wearing your favorite color!

February 12 | 10:30 AM | Curator's Choice with Dr. Sarah Cartwright 

Join Dr. Sarah Cartwright, the Ulla R. Searing Curator of Collections, for a tour of the Museum of Art. 

February 19 | 1:30 PM | Visual Thinking Strategies Discussion 

Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is a method of facilitating equitable discussions about art in a way that encourages the entire group to look closely and discover meaning collaboratively. VTS is used in art museums and schools throughout the world to empower people to extrapolate meaning from images. 
    
Curious to learn more and try it out? Join Ringling educators for this unique Gallery Walk and Talk that will consist of facilitated VTS discussions on four paintings in the collection.

Women have been making history since the beginning of time! On this tour, you'll meet some of the fearless females from the Ringling's collection and hear their stories.

April 2 | 10:30 AM | Humor in the Collection

Art isn't always serious business!    We'll take a look at a selection of objects that address humor in some way, from tongue-in-cheek references to bawdiness to inside jokes.

Join Mike Solomon, the artist’s son, for a tour of Syd Solomon: Concealed and Revealed 

April 15 | 1:30 PM | A Naturalist's Guide to The Ringling

 We'll use nature as a lens for a fresh look at the art collection.

April 30 | 6:00 PM | Being Seen 

Christopher Jones, Curator of Photography and Media Art, will discuss The Ringling’s special exhibition of photography Being Seen: Recent Acquisitions from The Ringling Collection of Photography. The tour will explore the various motivations and perspectives that inform the photographs on display. This program will be repeated on May 13 and June 4.

May 11 | 10:30 AM | The Circus and the Suffragists

Jennifer Lemmer Posey, Tibbals Curator of Circus, will discuss intersections between the circus and the suffragist movement. Participants will visit an exhibition of historical circus posters and then have the opportunity to examine other related archival materials. 

May 13 | 10:30 AM | Being Seen 

Christopher Jones, Curator of Photography and Media Art, will discuss The Ringling’s special exhibition of photography Being Seen: Recent Acquisitions from The Ringling Collection of Photography. The tour will explore the various motivations and perspectives that inform the photographs on display. This program will be repeated on June 4.

May 27 | 1:30 PM | Memorials in the Collection

This gallery talk will explore the idea of artwork as memorial. We will highlight a selection of objects that commemorate loss or celebrate specific moments from the past.

June 4 | 10:30 AM | Being Seen
